Cool breeze, mild and heavy thundershowers, lot of greenery, chirping birds and beautiful serenity amidst the daily activities of the locals are the characteristic features of the Pune city which is located in the western state of Maharashtra, at an altitude of around 559m above sea level. Pune spreads over an area of 138 sq km and is the second largest city in Maharashtra. It lies at 170 kms south of Mumbai and has been the cultural capital of Maharashtra since ages.
Pune boasts of a rich past and attractions that are exclusive to it. The city is great vacation destination of the young as well as the old. The other major attractions of Pune include the St. Mary’s Church, the Saras Garden, Mulshi, Pashan Lake, the Pataleshwar Caves, Bund Garden, Appu Ghar, Dehu, NDA Academy, Empress Garden and the Osho Ashram.
Pune also provides its visitors an opportunity to enjoy activities such as paragliding at the Gliding Center Pune, horse riding at the Digvijay Pratishthan riding school, water sports at the Panshet Water Park and swimming at the state-of-art swimming pool called Tilak Tank which is located in the heart of the city

Pune is famous for its colorful and vibrant festivals and events such as the Ganesh Mahotsav which is celebrated usually for ten days; the Sawai Gandharva festival that started in 1960 and showcases the performance of Indian and international artists for three days; the Osho festival; the Chaturshringi Fair which is held overnight on Navratri at the Senapati Bapat Road, Pune.
Apart from the foreign and domestic visitors, a large part of Pune’s population comprises of students. The city boasts some excellent educational institutes like the Fergusson College, the Symbiosis Institute of Business Management, the Symbiosis Institute of Telecom Management, NG Naralkar’s Institute of Career Dev and Research, the College of Engineering, Pune, the PICT, the Deccan College and Bhandarkar Institute, University of Pune, the Law College, IUCAA, Bharti Vidyapeeth and Ness Wadia College.

For those who wish to experience the charisma of Pune city, the first thing is to decide the means of transport to reach there. Pune is well connected through road, rail and air services. Getting around the city is also easy. Depending on your budget, you can choose either bus, cab or auto-rickshaw.
Pune is hot from March to May as mercury soars from 35 to 42 degree Celsius. But there are often some thundershowers in the month of May. Otherwise, the weather of the city is pleasant and cooler than the rest of the Indian cities.
